Mahou Shoujo Taisen was an original anime series project based on the concept of magical girls that represent each of the 47 prefectures in Japan. The concepts for the designs of the magical girls began as a character design contest organized by the web television program 2.5 Jigen Terebi. Those chosen from the entries were later used for the anime series and video games based on the concept.
The overall concept of Mahou Shoujo Taisen focuses on girls from the 47 prefectures of Japan which are chosen to carry special powers by misaki, supernatural creatures linked to the deities of the country. These girls are tasked with eliminating malicious creatures called magatsuhi, which bring harm to humans upon contact. The anime series, which composed of three-minute episodes, focuses on the story of eight magical girls, while the video games linked to the concept feature appearances of all 47 prefectural magical girls.
